Cato’s changes hours after armed robbery

A Monkey Junction women’s clothing store is changing its hours and ramping up security after employees were robbed of $250 at gun- and knife-point about 9 p.m. Friday.

Coastal Resources Commission rules stall until legislature meets

Two months ago in some of the biggest changes in coastal policy in years, the N.C. Coastal Resources Commission adopted rules forcing bigger buildings to be built farther back from the ocean. But the implementation of that rule was sandbagged Friday.

Report: Cato’s robbed Friday night at gunpoint

An armed robbery was reported just before 9 p.m. Friday at Cato’s, a store in a shopping center at 315 S. College Road, according to the Wilmington dispatch center.<br>A dispatcher reported that two men and one woman were armed with a shotgun and a knife, and wore ski masks.

Life Stories: Parrish’s maternal instinct impacted many lives

Gertrude Parrish lived by her priorities: first God, next was family, then all others and lastly herself.<br>Parrish died Nov. 5, at the age of 89, from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.<br>Raised a farm girl, Parrish was the “second mother” in her childhood home of Hampstead.

Some veterans say they struggle for care from VA clinic’s contractors

The private company that has been running the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ outpatient clinic in Wilmington and racking up hundreds of complaints from area veterans will continue to manage the facility until the end of May.
