Police searching for missing Wilmington woman

Wilmington police would like help finding a 56-year-old woman who has been missing since Monday, and who may be in need of medication, officials said.<br>Margaret Dianne Cook, 56, of Wilmington, went missing Monday evening. Cook, who is diabetic, was last seen wearing jeans, a blue and red checkered blouse and pink glasses.

Board recommends costly WASTEC improvements, trucking garbage

The trash board has spoken.<br>New Hanover County should invest millions of dollars to improve the WASTEC trash incinerator and contract with private industry to haul garbage out of the county, according to preliminary recommendations decided Wednesday by the Solid Waste Advisory Board.

Robot surgery helps patients recover more quickly

“I believe this is the future of surgery,” said Christian deBeck, a urologist at New Hanover Regional. He was the first surgeon to start using robotic surgery at the hospital, where 15 procedures have been conducted since September.

Suspected armed robber arrested in Wilmington

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office nabbed a suspected armed robber on the Isabella Holmes Bridge Wednesday morning.<br>The suspect entered the Scotchman Store at 1610 N. Highway 421 at 3:30 a.m., displayed a weapon and left with an undisclosed amount of money, according to Deputy Charles Smith.

Police cruiser crashes into SUV on 17th Street

A man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Wednesday evening after his SUV was struck by a Wilmington police cruiser.<br>The wreck occurred around 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of South 16th Street and Robin Hood Road.
