As the economic crunch trickles down, even animals are affected

Annual bird counts key to tracking population

Wilmington’s bird count is scheduled for Jan. 3, and the Southport/Bald Head Island count for Jan. 4. The count works by volunteers, generally in small groups, fanning out in a 15-mile radius from a central location.
