Seniors are invited to a night of dancing at UNCW

Valentine’s Day comes a little early this year for seniors and UNCW students at the 15th annual Young at Heart Social.

All seniors are invited to this event, and they are encouraged to dress to impress.

There will be dancing to big band music, door prizes, formal prom pictures, refreshments and of course, great companionship from the students.

It is from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night in UNCW’s Burney Center.

Anyone interested in attending or volunteering can call 910-962-3877.

Wilmington residents can discuss planned improvements for Front Street

Wednesday night Wilmington residents will be able to see first hand what the city is doing to improve Front Street.

The city will discuss planned improvements, including lighting, sidewalks and traffic signals.

The project on the table Wednesday night specifically includes the blocks between Market and Chestnut streets.

City staff and project consultants will be on hand to answer questions. The meeting is from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.

NC bank employee follows suspects after robbery

GREENSBORO — Police say a North Carolina bank employee followed two robbery suspects and gave directions to officers, who had a running shootout that left an officer and the
suspects wounded. One of the suspects later died.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported Wednesday that police said the bank employee who helped Monday was a hero and the officers were brave for running into a gunfight. The robbery
happened about 5 p.m. at Lorillard Federal Credit Union.

Police say 22-year-old Dimarkchrisy Eddie Majors died early Tuesday. The other suspect remained in the hospital.

Police also said Officer Matt O’Hal was in stable conditions with a gunshot wound to the leg.
