Bills aim to shut down animal gas chambers

Drop-out rates statewide have declined

New statewide school drop-out numbers are out, and they show the first decline in three years.

North Carolina’s dropout rate was just below five percent for the 2007-2008 school year.
New Hanover County had a 5.4 percent dropout rate with 421 students leaving before graduation.

Although that’s an improvement from last year, the school board wants even more of a decrease.

Administrators designed an aggressive improvement strategy, made up of more than 100 policies, services, interventions and strategies to keep kids in school.
