Three boats destroyed in Oak Island marina fire

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Three boats are destroyed after a fire at an Oak Island marina.

The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. at the South Harbor Village Marina, on the eastern end of Oak Island.

One of the burned-out boats actually sank. No one was on board the boats when the fire broke out, and no one was hurt.

Oak Island Fire Chief, John House, said the cause is still under investigation…

That investigation is on hold until Friday, because one of the vessels was leaking diesel fuel into the water.

The names of the boats’ owners have not been released.

If you are looking for more ways to pamper your pet, don’t miss this weekend’s Monty’s Home Pet Expo.

The expo will feature everything from veterinarians, trainers, pet care items to the latest and greatest products for your pet.

The expo is meant to educate pet owners, and to give them a chance to shop at all the booths. This is the second year Monty’s Home has sponsored the expo. It is the year’s largest fundraiser for one of their popular training programs.

Barbara Raab, Monty’s Home Pet Expo founder said, “We take dogs from the shelter, and we put them in the prison system, the state prison system. We train the inmates to train the dogs and then we adopt them out, but the vet bills and the expense from pulling the dogs from the pound is quite expensive.”

The Monty’s Home Pet Expo is this Sunday at the CFCC Schwartz Center from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Admission is five dollars per person and children under twelve are free, but please leave your pets at home.
