Work on the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge begins Monday night.

The bridge will be left in the upright position overnight, for three nights, until Wednesday, February 25th. The Department of Transportation will be reinforcing the bridge’s foundation under the water. The bridge will be closed to drivers from 11:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Department of Transportation engineer, Amanda Glynn said, “If you know you’re going to have to be on the mainland you’ll need to make arrangements to stay on the mainland. We will have a plan for emergency vehicles if there’s a fire or medical emergency on the island, the bridge will be open to traffic within 20 minutes of notification.”

There is a chance the bridge will also be closed for a few nights the first week of March, depending on how the first set of repair work goes.

If you are interested in contacting Sea Tow for a free ride when the bridge is up, the number to call is 910-452-3798.
