Residents of Leland are invited to line dancing

The Town of Leland is inviting residents to put on their dancing shoes and join the Parks and Recreation department for some line dancing.

The town is offering free line dancing for residents. All levels of experience, from beginner to advanced, are welcome to attend.

The free lessons are held at 1:00 p.m. every Tuesday in the Leland Recreation Building, located at 102 Town Hall Drive.

Cable operator Charter to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Charter Communications Inc., which provides cable service to Carolina Beach, said it plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection by April 1. Chapter 11 offers temporary protection from creditors so the company can emerge strong enough to continue business long-term. Day-to-day business operations typically are not affected.

Actor Ed Asner visits Wilmington with a traveling theatre group

Aspiring actors got up close and personal with an industry icon Monday night.

Ed Asner, well known for his work on Mary Tyler Moore and Lou Grant, is in Wilmington with a traveling theatre group. He and fellow cast members spoke on a panel at the WHQR studios.

The actors are performing in The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial, which tells the story of the 1925 trial that challenged a Tennessee law that forbade teaching evolution instead of creationism.

The play is Wednesday night at UNCW.
