11-year-old hit by car in Kings Grant neighborhood

An eleven-year-old boy is in critical condition after a car hit him in the Kings Grant neighborhood of New Hanover County Wednesday night.

The driver is a 24-year-old man who lives nearby.

Troopers said he was driving the speed limit in the neighborhood and is not facing charges. They also said the boy was walking in the middle of the dark street in dark clothing.

The boy is being transferred to a hospital in Charlotte for further treatment.

The names of the driver and the boy who was hit have not been released.

Fair Thursday night provides information on local magnet schools

The New Hanover County School District is hosting its second annual Magnet Schools Fair Thursday night.

Parents will have the opportunity to get information on three magnet schools; Gregory School of Science, Mathematics, and Technology, the Rachel Freeman School of Engineering and Snipes Academy of Arts and Design.

All three principals will be there answering questions.

The fair will be in the Dale K. Spencer Board of Education Building on South 15th Street. It goes from 6:30 to 8:00.
