GREENSBORO — A federal judge has sentenced the former head of a liquor law enforcement agency in North Carolina to 15 months in prison for taking money that was seized during investigations.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported Friday that the judge also sentenced Danny Ray Burton on three years of supervised release after he serves his prison term. Burton was chief of the Triad Municipal ABC Law Enforcement in Forsyth County. He also was fined $3,000 and ordered to pay $1,198 in restitution.

Burton pleaded guilty last summer to two charges of stealing more than $1,000 in government property.

Burton was arrested in an FBI sting operation in which $6,584 was put in an evidence locker only he could access. When the money was counted, $1,040 was missing.
