Businesses using YouTube too

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Body

Yesterday we told you how businesses can maximize their exposure online through search engine optimization, but another way to gain visibility is through YouTube.

Every minute, fifteen hours of video is uploaded onto You Tube.

Although much of the video is for pure entertainment, companies are starting to create YouTube videos to promote business.

The Wilmington KOA creates a video every month to advertise their campground and hopefully draw more visitors. “It has made the length of time people stay on our website longer,” said owner Joel Tomaselli.who got recognized nationally by KOA because of his videos.

A new type of camera on the market makes it much easier to post videos on YouTube. The camera automatically puts the video in the correct format for YouTube.

It also includes software, in case you want to edit. Otherwise just hit ‘upload’ and you’re good to go.

The amount of video footage uploaded to you tube every week is equivalent to Hollywood releasing 86,000 full-length movies into theatres each week.

A Wilmington police officer that was injured in the line of duty was honored Thursday afternoon.

Officer Christopher Greer was awarded with $1,000 from the Officer Down Fund, a financial assistance program for law enforcement and rescue personnel.

Officer Greer was injured in October, when his car hydroplaned and crashed in to a tree while responding to a breaking and entering call.

He broke two vertebrae in his neck, two fingers and injured his right leg. It was his first solo patrol.

“It’s nice, not so much the monetary part…to be appreciated and to feel that the community appreciates what me, and others like me do every day,” Officer Greer said.

Officer Greer is now back on patrol.

An amusement park will open in Myrtle Beach this summer; it just won’t be called Hard Rock Park. Instead, it will be called Freestyle Music Park.

FBI MB Entertainment purchased the park out of bankruptcy for $25 million last month.

The original $4000 million Hard Rock Park that opened last year was the largest tourism investment in South Carolina history.

It will reopen as Freestyle Music Park during Memorial Day weekend.
