Brunswick officials scrutinize ATV club

Woman, 25, killed in head-on collision near Shallotte

A 25-year-old woman was killed Saturday night in a head-on collision south of Shallotte which injured three other people, officials said.The wreck occurred at 8:54 p.m. as Jerricka Elizabeth Blanton, of Supply headed south on Bricklanding Road in a 1993 Toyota, according to Sgt. C.C. Albritton of N.C. Highway Patrol.

Many questions left in 20-year-old woman’s slaying

When a 20-year-old woman was stabbed to death on Sept. 22, 2005, and left naked inside her car in a Greenfield Lake parking lot, four months passed before authorities charged someone with her murder.

Kure Beach holds street festival

The town of Kure Beach celebrated spring on Saturday with its annual street festival.

Parts of K and Atlantic avenues were filled with vendors selling arts and crafts, and good food.

Onlookers were able to enjoy the sweet sounds of several area bands, including the Brunswick Big Band.

The street festival was a family event.

“My favorite part of today was seeing all my friends and family here and having a great time,” said Kure local Jeffrey Hubbard.

The festival is held every year on the last Saturday in the month of April.

Hands on Wilmington beautifies city

Hundreds of people from around the community came together for to make Wilmington a better place on Saturday.

Hands on Wilmington challenged volunteers to complete an assigned beautification project in various places throughout the city.

Projects included planting trees and painting.

Commander Wes Schlauder of the USS North Carolina SSN 777 was there to help out. “Our trip down to Wilmington this weekend was primarily to participate in the hands on Wilmington event today where we conducted landscaping work around New Hanover High School.”

Hands on Wilmington takes place one Saturday during the month of April each year.
