Wrightsville Beach kids meet far-away friends

A Wrightsville Beach Elementary School pen pal program pairs students with fellow first graders from Fayetteville Street Elementary in Durham and a busload of more than 30 students drove from Durham Friday to cement long-distance friendships and give some of the Durham students their first-ever trip to the beach.

Book Review – Author pitches a gem with Fenway fairy tale

Just in time, as the ’09 major league season warms up, comes a delicious little fairy tale about the National Pastime. “The Prince of Fenway Park” is technically listed as a children’s book (recommended for ages 8-12), but like Harry Potter or Dr. Seuss, it’s way too much for the kids to hog it all.

Participating in horses’ rescue gets officer demoted
