Greenfield Lake Park’s reputation for crime re-energizes effort

Among the children playing at the playground and families biking a wooded trail was a woman doused in her own blood, and the perpetrator had vanished. It’s not a usual incident at the park, but it’s not the first violent crime to happen there, either.

6-year-old girl drowns at public pool in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. | Authorities are investigating the drowning death of a 6-year-old girl at a public North Carolina pool.Multiple media outlets reported Saturday that paramedics were called to the Kimberly Park pool in Winston-Salem Friday afternoon.

Heat indexes of 100 to 104 degrees possible today; caution urged

.Cape Fear residents should avoid prolonged strenuous activities outside this afternoon as heat indexes will reach 100 to 104 degrees, the National Weather Service office in Wilmington said.The combination of heat and humidity will create the heat indexes for much of the region, the weather service said.
