A car chase that started at the airport this morning led to one man’s arrest.

Airport officials say around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a man realized he was getting a ticket for leaving his vehicle unattended. He then jumped in his car and sped off before the ticket could be issued.

Sheriff’s deputies were called for back up and when they tried to flag the man down on Martin Luther King Blvd., he attempted to run them over.

Deputies chased him to a dead end on Eastwood Road, where he was arrested and slapped with six different charges.

Chair of NC Republican Party sues local radio host Curtis Wright

The North Carolina Association of Broadcasters is weighing in on a lawsuit against Wilmington talk radio host Curtis Wright.

Tom Fetzer, the chair of the North Carolina Republican Party, has sued Wright for slander after Wright forwarded an anonymous letter to people in the Republican Party that insinuated Fetzer is gay.

Attorneys for the NCAB say legal precedent is not on Fetzer’s side. To prove slander, you must prove your professional reputation has been injured, that someone accused you of having a loathsome disease, or that they accused you of being a criminal.

Unless Fetzer loses his position as state party chair, it may be difficult to prove damages.

Curtis Wright and his fellow defendants say this lawsuit has no merit.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A spokesman for South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says the Republican checked in with his staff and was surprised by the attention given to his secretive vacation.

Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer says the governor called his chief of staff Tuesday morning. His last known contact with staff was five days earlier.

Sawyer says the governor was taken aback by the interest his trip to the Appalachian Trail has garnered. Sawyer says the governor decided that with all the attention he’d return to his
office Wednesday.

Sanford’s wife told The Associated Press on Monday that she hadn’t seen him in several days and didn’t know where he was. First lady Jenny Sanford said the father of four left before the Father’s Day weekend to get away from their children and write.
