It’s Wrightsville Beach, sometime prior to the autumn of 1909, according to the postmark on the back of the postcard (in color, printed in Germany).There’s the grand old Oceanic Hotel, as seen from the beachfront. A huge crowd of bathers in bulky, two-piece bathing suits are frolicking waist-deep in the water.

Joseph Ho, owner of the Szechuan 132 restaurant does not remember regular customer Norman Evenson for the food he ordered but for the man he was.In the nearly 20 years Evenson and his wife, Janet Evenson, were patrons of the College Road restaurant, Ho remembers his “friend” as a “good listener” and ultimate optimist.
