Wilmington murder suspect turns himself in

The suspect in Wilmington’s first homicide is in custody, a Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman said Sunday morning.Leroy Bernard Sampson Jr., , turned himself into law enforcement about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, said Crystal Williamson of the police department.Sampson is being held in the New Hanover County jail under no bond;, she said.

Wilmington man arrested on rape charges

An 18-year-old Wilmington man was arrested Saturday night on charges stemming from a report of a rape last week in downtown Wilmington.Damian Laquan Johnson, of the 1100 block of S. 4th Street, was charged with first degree rape, kidnapping, sexual offense and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Man charged in Market Street bank robbery

Wilmington police have charged a man in connection with a July 10 robbery at RBC Centura Bank on Market Street.James Taylor Stewart, 49, of the 800 block of Martin Street, was charged with common law robbery and is being held at the New Hanover County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond, according to a news release.
