Fire quickly extinguished, dog rescued

Wilmington | Firefighters used a heat-sensing camera to find and save a dog in a smoky home after a kitchen fire Tuesday evening, officials said.Firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire at 609 Grace Street, a blaze that temporarily displaced a family but didn’t appear to cause major structural damage to the house.

Lack of funding slashes amount of sand meant to nourish Carolina Beach

Carolina Beach will be receiving approximately half the sand it had expected next spring, Town Manager Tim Owens announced at the town’s special meeting Tuesday .The project had been intended to nourish the beach from the north end of the town to near Atlanta Avenue, but now the project will stop at Sailfish Lane.

Couple robbed at knifepoint on Orange Street

Wilmington | A man and woman were robbed Monday night while walking in the 200 block of Orange Street, officials said.At 10:09 p.m., a man parked his car, stepped out and brandished a knife at the couple, according to a statement from Lucy Crockett, spokeswoman for the Wilmington Police Department.
