New Hanover 911 service restored after lightning strike

New Hanover County’s 911 service has been restored as of 3:56 p.m. Friday after a lightning strike caused it to go down. Earlier Friday, emergency calls in New Hanover County were routed to Brunswick County.

Record enrollment worsens parking problem at area community colleges

CFCC should complete a parking deck with 450 spaces in April, and plans to add another 1,000 spaces in 2011. BCC has added more than 200 and will have added another 117 spots by late fall.

Man arrested for allegedly stealing from purses in New Hanover courthouse

It takes some guts to steal something right in front of a judge, but that is exactly what one Wilmington man is accused of doing.

William Mustian II was caught stealing from a purse inside the New Hanover County Courthouse Thursday.

Two people noticed their purses had been tampered with while they appeared before the judge.

Mustian was arrested after he was found with one of their wallets. He is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $22,000 bond.

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says it has taken a Wilmington drug dealer off the streets, following a two week investigation.

Deputies arrested 33-year-old Antonio Wright Thursday afternoon. They say they recovered 57 bags of heroin; a street value of more than two thousand dollars.

Wright faces various charges including possession and intent to sell heroin.

He is being held in the New Hanover County Detention Facility under a $50,000 secured bond.
