NRC to review uranium-enrichment plant plan

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is formally reviewing GE-Hitachi’s application to build a uranium enrichment plant in New Hanover County.

The NRC said in a release the company’s plans passed an initial acceptance review. The agency also said it has requested more information from GE-Hitachi.

The licensing review will include an environmental impact statement, public comments and technical safety review.

The Powerball jackpot for tonight’s drawing has reached an estimated $250 million. That’s the largest current lottery jackpot in the world, according to a news release from the N.C. Education Lottery.

Man gets 12- to 15-year sentence for murdering Leland man

A 28-year-old man pleaded guilty last week to killing his sister’s boyfriend after shooting up a Leland house in the middle of the night. Norris Johnson pleaded guilty to second degree murder in Brunswick County Superior Court and was sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison, according to the Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office.

City of Wilmington gives hotel developer sixth extension
