Boy in coma after fall from tree dies

Belville | A 9-year-old boy who was in a coma after he fell out of a tree in Belville last week died at the hospital on Friday.Theodore “Teddy” Hiatt, of Oak Island, died at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, according to an obituary from White Funeral Services Inc. in Southport.

Man found beaten in woods along Wrightsville Avenue

A 55-year-old man was found unconscious Sunday morning in a wooded area off Wrightsville Avenue and was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with a severe head injury, officials said.

EPA moving toward banning waste discharge in area waters

The Environmental Protection Agency has determined there are enough waste-pumping stations in New Hanover County to support banning boaters from discharging their waste into the area’s coastal waters.Now the matter is open to public comment. The EPA will be collecting comments on the matter until Sept. 23.
