We have been trying for a month and a half to interview State Senator RC Soles about some concerning allegations regarding his personal and financial relationships with young men in Tabor City. He has failed to return repeated phone calls, and asked us to leave his office when we tried to go see him in Tabor City. But today, he sat down for an interview with us during an appearance in Brunswick County.

Senator Soles has been accused of child molestation by one young man and questioned about extravagant gifts, including a house and a corvette for another 17 year old.

Today, he answered our questions.

Due to the high profile of this story, we have decided to air our raw interview in its entirety.

One local woman wants to be heard loud and clear by our Congressional representatives on the issue of health care reform.

Mary Kay Mason is organizing a “mock” town hall meeting to give concerned residents an opportunity to voice their opinions. So far there has been no official town hall meeting in our area.

Mason has contacted Senator Richard Burr and Representative Mike McIntyre to appear at the meeting. They’ll both send statements instead.

“We’re not talking about your car; we’re talking about your life, and your health,” said Mason. “If government controls your health they control you. It’s really frightening because government is really powerful.”

Mason tried to contact Senator Kay Hagan to invite her to the meeting. She was told the request was filed with the senator.

If you are after the best cheesesteak in town, many will point you to J. Michael’s. This Sunday, the authentic Philadelphia-style deli is celebrating thirty years in Wilmington.

Phillies are their specialty, but the friendly folks and sports-bar like atmosphere also help keep the place packed. They have three locations and some of the most loyal customers in town.

“Actually we’re really from Philadelphia so we grew up on steaks,” said Jean Dunn of Wilmington. “When they first opened up, we were here and we’ve been supporting them ever since.”

Greensboro’s Carol Bowden said, “We didn’t want to leave Wilmington because we didn’t want to leave J. Michael’s, it’s so good.”

Co-owner Michael Hutson said, “We’re going to celebrate Sunday by building a 79-foot cheesesteak and we’re going to have a cheesesteak eating contest and some dance demonstrations. We’re just going to have a party.”

The festivities kick off this Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the J. Michael’s in Hanover Center on Oleander Drive.
