Conscience – Pleasure Island Parrot Heads to sweep beach

You don’t have to be a Jimmy Buffett fan to be a Parrot Head, but it helps. That’s the word I got from a group of Pleasure Island Parrot Heads who gathered in Kure Beach to tell me about Saturday’s beach sweep.

N.C. employee health insurance plan wants cost cuts

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina’s state employee health plan got out of a deep hole last spring thanks to a $250 million cash injection from the state’s rainy-day reserves, followed by higher dependent premiums and more out-of-pocket expenses for everyone.

Nino’s takes trophy in Wilmington pizza contest

The Carolina Original Music Festival, held Saturday at Ogden Park, combined music from six North Carolina bands with a Best Pizza in Wilmington contest. The contest and music festival raised money for cancer research.

Book Marks – Library’s online software makes life easier

New software at the New Hanover County Public Library is going to make life a little easier for ordinary patrons – and checking its catalogs online a little more like using Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.com“Except that the books here are free,” said librarian Margaret Miles.
