Eber Noyola eventually ended up winning the literary equivalent of the lottery by beating out 43,000 entries from fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth graders when she won the national award from the DAR.

N.C. employee health insurance plan wants cost cuts

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina’s state employee health plan got out of a deep hole last spring thanks to a $250 million cash injection from the state’s rainy-day reserves, followed by higher dependent premiums and more out-of-pocket expenses for everyone.

Nino’s takes trophy in Wilmington pizza contest

The Carolina Original Music Festival, held Saturday at Ogden Park, combined music from six North Carolina bands with a Best Pizza in Wilmington contest. The contest and music festival raised money for cancer research.
