Masonboro Island committee seeks solutions to trashy revelers

Members of the Local Advisory Committee agreed Thursday more needs to be done to protect Masonboro Island from the ravages of holiday revelers, although specific policies are still being weighed.After the Fourth of July holiday, beer cans and beach chairs littered a quarter-mile stretch of the shore.

Wrightsville Beach| Police have charged a 28-year-old man in connection with a beating this weekend that put a man in the intensive care unit of New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Coastal Horizon Center lauded for mental health efforts on tight budget

State money is tight, but services for people needing mental health and substance abuse treatment should continue to receive help, North Carolina Health and Human Services Secretary Lanier Cansler told attendees of a dinner Thursday evening recognizing the nonprofit group Coastal Horizon Center Inc.

Heroin bust results in charges against brother and sister

New Hanover County sheriff’s deputies searched a brother and sister’s home this week and arrested them on drug charges, officials said.Deputies concluded a narcotics investigation this week with a search of a home at 705 E. Summertime Lane, according to a statement from Deputy Charles Smith of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

Stolen car recovered, arrest made

Castle Hayne | New Hanover County sheriff’s deputies found a stolen car Wednesday and arrested its driver, officials said.After hearing a broadcast describe the vehicle, a deputy spotted the car in the 2800 block of Castle Hayne Road.
