Hamburger Joe’s on Market Street closes

Restaurant and entertainment venue Hamburger Joe’s closed Sunday night after nearly three years in business, owner Brian Slagle said Tuesday.Slagle cited bad economic conditions as the reason the casual restaurant at 7032 Market St. shut down.Restaurants have struggled in the poor economy, he said.

Man remains in intensive care as police continue to look for attacker

Wrightsville Beach Police continue their search for the person responsible for a brutal attack over the weekend.

Judd Gee was assaulted around 2:30 Saturday morning when he was riding his bike home after a night out. The attack happened on South Lumina Avenue.

Forty-one-year-old Gee is from Charlotte and was staying at his beach house with his wife for the week. He has relatives in the area, and the family has been visiting Wrightsville Beach since he was a kid.

Gee is in intensive care with severe injuries. His assailant, believed to be a white male in his twenties, is still at large.
