Crack bust nets mother and son

Wilmington | Police searched a home Wednesday night and seized crack cocaine and arrested a mother and her son, officials said.The search of 1310 Greenfield St., in the Houston Moore public housing community, was a joint operation between the department’s Vice Narcotics Unit and its Special Enforcement Response Team.

Wilmington | One of the most contentious debates going on along the North Carolina coast these days involves whether to allow terminal groins.A lecture Friday at the University of North Carolina Wilmington will explain how terminal groins work in trapping sand and their impacts on adjacent inlets and beaches.

Pender County Murder Suspect turns himself in

Thursday, October 29th, 2009



A suspected murderer is in custody in Pender County.

Ronnie Peddie turned himself in Thursday afternoon. Peddie is accused of killing Harry Lee Tate of Willard over the weekend.

Tate’s family believes a dispute started between the two a couple years ago over a truck Tate sold to Peddie.

Peddie is in the Pender County jail under no bond.

South Kerr Ave. near Market St. closed because of a sewer system problem

All lanes of South Kerr Avenue between Market Street and Cinema Drive are closed because of a sewer system cave-in, according to a news release from the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.
