Stores, customers not waiting for Black Friday

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Body

Black Friday is still a week away, but stores are not waiting. They are already rolling out deals to catch early holiday shoppers. Stores are using early sales as incentives to get people spending money during the holidays in a rocky economy.

“I am expecting on Friday, a well-organized crowd that is going to come in and be happy,” said Walmart store manager Norman Taylor.

As nice as that would be for Taylor, the reality is it’s unlikely. Black Friday is typically a zoo. That is why some stores are having door-buster holiday sales starting this weekend. Walmart started November 17th.

“We wanted to get out and offer people plenty of specials and give them an opportunity to buy to take some of the pressure off of the Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving sales,” said Taylor.

Stores are also lowering prices early to give people more incentives to spend money in a tight economy.

Peggy Shepard started her holiday shopping early with a 15 percent off, four-day pass from Belk that starts Friday. Belk is also opening early Saturday, at 8:00 a.m., and will be honoring 30 percent off coupons.

Walmart has a Panasonic 50-inch TV already marked down to about $800. One of the hottest items this holiday season is Elmo’s Tickle Hands, which are already on sale for $24.00.

If you want to plan your attack early this year, you can avoid Black Friday madness and catch some good deals this weekend.

If you plan on waiting until Black Friday to shop, go online first. One place to look is www.BlackFriday.info. The website posts sales ads from more than 50 major retailers.

Next week, the website should have printable maps of some stores like Walmart. The maps highlight which aisles have the good stuff so you can better plan your Black Friday morning attack.
