Some ABC officials resist turning over public salary records

Salary information for employees at local Alcoholic Beverage Control boards are public records, but requests for those records by the StarNews were met with stiff resistance by some ABC officials.

One dead, four injured in multi-car crash at Market and 17th streets

Wilmington | One person was killed and four people were taken to a hospital after a multi-car crash about 10 p.m. Friday, Wilmington police said.The crash closed Market Street between 16th and 17th streets while investigators and emergency workers were on the scene.

Navassa officials talk to Perdue about U.S. 17 bypass

Town officials have the ear of Gov. Bev Perdue in their quest to compel the state Department of Transportation build a section of the U.S. 17 Wilmington Bypass in northern Brunswick County before an adjoining section to the south.

Brunswick authorities looking for man suspected of rape, kidnapping

Brunswick County | The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a 17-year-old man wanted on charges of statutory rape and two counts of second-degree kidnapping.Noel Velasquez is 5-foot-2, weighs 140 pounds and is Hispanic, according to Lt. Sam Davis of the sheriff’s office.
