Migrating right whales swim by Fort Fisher

On Sunday, researchers from the University of North Carolina Wilmington spotted a trio of Atlantic right whales swimming just three miles off Fort Fisher.

New Oak Island mayor will try to trim town hall cost

In March, the town council voted to award the construction contract for a new town hall to Paragon Building Corp. for $2.6 million. Wallace says that while the cost has been reported as $2.6 million, the actual cost, including debt service, will total $6.7 million.

Health Notes – Speaker to focus on spiritual health

WILMINGTON | Elizabeth Smith, a meditation instructor and spiritual health counselor, will speak Nov. 16 as part of the Integrative Healing Forum.Smith will discuss meditation and relaxation techniques. The talk is scheduled 6:45-8:15 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Center, 4313 Lake Ave.
