Baby injured in Thursday accident, man dies from Wednesday accident

It has been a bad couple of days for traffic incidents in the city of Wilmington.

An 18-month-old was taken to Chapel Hill, for injuries suffered in a crash Thursday morning at the corner of Third and Meares streets.

The baby’s mom, Heather Wilson, was going through the intersection, when her car was hit by a pick-up truck. The baby was in a child safety seat in the back seat.

The drivers of both vehicles are okay. So far, no charges have been filed.

Thirty-two-year-old Ronny Ballard has died after a crash between an ATV and an 18-wheeler. It happened just after 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, at Shipyard and Carolina Beach Road. Ballard was driving the ATV when he was hit.

The investigation is ongoing. ATV’s are not allowed on public roads.

Early light will signal Oak Island bridge traffic ahead

Oak Island | Oak Island’s new bridge is months away from delivering traffic to the island, but the N.C. Department of Transportation has already turned on a new traffic signal at Oak Island Drive and Middleton Avenue. And it’s flashing red for Oak Island Drive, forcing drivers on the main drag to stop.

ATV driver dies after crash at Shipyard, Carolina Beach Road

The driver of an all-terrain vehicle who was injured in crash Wednesday has died.Ronny Paul Ballard, 32, of Wilmington was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and was in critical condition Wednesday after a tractor-trailer collided with his ATV at the intersection of Shipyard Boulevard and Carolina Beach Road.

The Christmas festivities continue this weekend with a big tree lighting ceremony in Southport on the Garrison Lawn. WWAY will be there live starting at 5:00 p.m.

Laney High School is showing off its North Carolina Theater Conference state final play, The Good Doctor, Friday night. The play begins at 7:00 p.m. at Laney High School’s theater. Admission is free.

The candy man can, and so can you. Bring the kids to the Wilmington Children’s Museum Friday or Saturday to make gingerbread houses. Hours are from 4:00 until 6:00 Friday or 10:00 until noon Saturday. The cost is twelve dollars, plus museum admission.

Pleasure Island’s 9th Annual Kure Beach Christmas Fantasy Show is Friday and Saturday nights. It begins at 7:00 p.m. in K Avenue at the Kure Beach Pier.

The 17th Annual North Carolina Christmas Festival is Saturday at Leland Town Hall. The festival starts at 9:00; the parade begins at 10:00 at First Baptist Church. The festival is free – so are pictures with Santa.

You have more chances to catch a ride on the Polar Express this weekend. Bring your little ones in their PJs to listen to Kevin, Joe or Meghan read the children’s book to the crowd. Shows are at 4:30 and 6:30 both Saturday and Sunday.

Looking for jewelry, tools, motorcycles, boats, cars, bikes and electronics? You might find what you want at the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office. It is holding a large auction Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m.

The Brunswick Ballet Company is making a splash this weekend as they perform Nutcracker Under the Sea. The performance is at Odell Williamson Auditorium at 7:30 Saturday and 3 Sunday. Tickets are $6 and $15.

Forget the sleigh, Saturday, cruise to the North Pole to pick up Santa! Meet at Water and Dock streets at 9:30 am sharp. Admission to the Henrietta III is six non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army’s food pantry.

In Pender County Saturday night, it is the Burgaw Christmas Parade. Entertainment starts at 5:00 p.m., the parade gets underway at 6:30.

New Hanover High School band students step out of the classroom for its Christmas concert. It starts at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Riverfront Park.

Saturday, Covenant Moravian Church is holding its Christmas Candle Tea. The church is at 4126 South College Road. It starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m.

And Sunday, First Presbyterian Church is holding a holiday choral concert, featuring the Choral Department of Hoggard High School. It starts at 5:00 p.m.
