Wind advisory in effect for Southeastern N.C.

A wind advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. today for Southeastern North Carolina, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.Strong and gusty southwest winds will increase from about 20 mph this morning to 20 to 30 mph by midday. Gusts of 30 to 40 mph are expected, and higher gusts are possible.

Carolina Beach creates nonprofit for property purchases

Carolina Beach will now have a new tool to help it acquire grant money when purchasing property for town projects.The board voted unanimously to create Carolina Beach Public Purpose Properties Inc., or CBP3 for short, at its Tuesday meeting.

Wilmington man assaulted with bat, robbed

Wilmington | Robbers hit a man in the head with a bat Monday night, causing an injury that required treatment, officials said.The incident occurred in the 300 block of Grace Street around 9:30 p.m., according to Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman Lucy Crockett.

Lejeune Marines return from Afghanistan; others prepare for surge

Cars filled the parking lot in front of barracks near the back gate of Camp Lejeune and people in military fatigues and civilian clothes stood and talked in little groups on the lawn in front of the entrance while waiting for Second Marine Division, 2nd Recon Battalion Alpha 3 on Tuesday.
