Thirty-two children from Georgia took a sleigh ride with Santa today from Atlanta to Wilmington thanks to Atlantic southeast Airlines. Call it a direct flight to the Children’s Museum of Wilmington.
Most of these children had never heard of Wilmington, much less the Children’s Museum of Wilmington, but the museum was their home away from home for a day.
The trip was their reward for academic success.
“Some of them put one hundred percent effort into reading and taking some accelerated reader tests, and they made it!” said Symirna Jean-Simon of Hendrix Elementary School in Georgia.
As much fun as the museum was, the flight to the Port City was definitely one of the highlights of the day.
“It was exciting to see the kids faces, hitting the buttons on the plane, to go through the turbulence and be above the clouds,” said Kevin Wade of Atlantic Southeast Airlines.
This was the first trip to Wilmington for all the students. As for Santa Claus? He’s been here before.
The hardest part about Tuesday’s whirlwind outing was having to say good-bye, but the students did not leave town empty handed.
“It was a big adventure with a lot of activities. This place is the best,” said fourth grader Dakota Bernard.
This was one terrific field trip and after a trolley ride to the Wilmington International Airport, it’s all aboard, and the students can think about heading home
This is the 7th year for Santa’s special sleigh program for Hendrix Elementary School and Atlantic Southeast Airlines, but it’s the first time the sleigh flew into Wilmington.
