From battleship, radio operators reach out to WWII vets

Hoggard student charged with having a weapon on school property

Wilmington | A Hoggard High School student was charged Friday after being caught carrying a six inch folding knife in school, officials said.The charge came after the Wilmington Police Department received an anonymous message through its Text-A-Tip service, according to a statement from WPD Spokeswoman Lucy Crockett.

Oak Island officials OK golf cart transportation study

Oak Island wants to get moving on looking at a slow way of getting around the Brunswick County island.Town officials on Friday approved spending $21,140 on a golf cart transportation study, using money from the town’s room-tax fund.

Car break-ins reported at North Kerr Avenue neighborhood

New Hanover County | Residents reported several car break-ins to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office late last week. The four crimes were reported Friday, and three of them occurred within blocks of each other in a neighborhood off North Kerr Avenue, north of Wilmington.

Thieves clean out apartment in daytime Greenville Loop burglary

Wilmington | Someone stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and electronics from a home in the 6500 block of Greenville Loop Road on Thursday.The theft occurred during the day and was reported about 3:25 p.m., according to a report filed with the Wilmington Police Department.
