Hankins resigns from Wilmington Housing Authority

The Chairwoman of the Wilmington Housing Authority has announced her resignation.

Lethia Hankins, a former Wilmington City Council member and retired teacher, said she just has too many other commitments on her plate right now.

Among other things, she is on the board of trustees for Cape Fear Community College.

It will be up to Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo to appoint her replacement on the housing authority board.

Tardy tree trimmers looking for spruced up deals

It is the symbol of the season most people purchase in the days following Thanksgiving. People were out and about, not only doing last minute Christmas shopping, but last minute tree shopping.

Local businesses saw a number of customers looking to buy their tree on Christmas Eve. Trees were sold at discounted prices, and each customer had a reason for waiting.

“Too busy, too much shopping, some are tradition,” said sales associate Detrick Gregg. “We got a few customers that are going to wait till the last minute to get them before we close.”

On December 26th, the Christmas trees will be shipped away and chopped up to make room for new inventory.
