A New Hanover county man is in jail after confessing to killing his roommate.

After getting a call deputies responded to a home on South Branch Road near Ogden around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. There they found 68-year-old Carmine Anthony Bruno dead in the garage. Deputies say Bruno had been hit multiple times with a baseball bat on Tuesday.

Investigators arrested Dennis Benjamin Roy. Roy lived with Bruno and Bruno’s wife. Investigators say Roy became upset because of the couple’s abusive marriage. Deputies say they did not know about Bruno’s death until now, because the wife was kept medicated by Roy. Dennis Roy is in jail without bond. His first court appearance is today.
