At least 3 dead, 5 wounded in St. Louis shooting

An employee of a St. Louis manufacturing plant walked in with an assault rifle and a handgun on Thursday morning and opened fire, killing at least three people and wounding five others, authorities said.

Schools announce delays ahead of possible snow

With the threat of snow early in the morning, some schools are getting a jump start by delaying the start of their day Friday. New Hanover County Schools announced a two-hour delay for all students and employees. Buses will run two hours later than their normally scheduled pick-up times. Schools will release students on schedule.

“Our students’ safety is always at the forefront of our decision-making process,” Assistant Superintendent of Operations Bill Hance said in a statement. “So anytime there is the potential of hazardous road conditions and the threat of inclement weather, NHCS must consider the situation and determine what is the safe approach for our children.”

Comedian Billy D. Washington is coming to Thalian Hall this weekend. The former Houston policeman opened for Aretha Franklin and has been featured on several cable and network TV shows.

Show times:
Friday – 8:30 p.m.
Saturday – 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Sunday – 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and you can buy them at the Thalian Hall box office.

Saturday kicks off a three week exhibit of photographs showing civilian and military life in Iraq. Iraq war veteran Sgt. Eric Edmondson captured the photos during his tour of duty. The opening ceremony is at the Sherman Hayes gallery in UNC-W’s Randall Library at 1:30 p.m. The exhibit is on display until Sunday, January 31st.

You can help our troops serving overseas with the gift of life. Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until 1 p.m. The VFW post 25-73 is holding a blood drive at the Naval Reserve Center on Lake Shore Drive.
All donations will go to support the troops in the war zone.

If you’re craving pancakes for breakfast Saturday morning, head to Applebee’s and support man’s best friend. Pleasure Island Paws Flapjack Fundraiser is from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the New Centre Drive restaurant. Your $7 gets you pancakes, sausage and a beverage.

BREAKING NEWS: Grand jury indicts Soles

A Columbus County grand jury indicted Sen. R.C. Soles for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Last month, a grand jury found probable cause to believe Soles had acted unlawfully when he shot 22-year-old Kyle Blackburn, a client of his law firm.

Soles said Blackburn was trying to break into his house Aug. 23, but Blackburn told WWAY he was leaving Soles’s property when the senator shot him.

Now that Soles has been indicted, he will be arrested and processed through the system.

Man arrested on probation violation charges
