Former board member says liquor rep footed one dinner bill for ABC officials, family members

During a four-day trip to Asheville in July 2009 to attend an annual ABC board conference, an ex-board member said Wednesday an alcohol company representative footed the dinner bill on one occasion for four ABC officials and some of their family members, but he could not remember details and said they don’t know how much it cost.

Allen Strickland, 18, was charged in late August after police say he led them on a chase that spanned several streets on the west side of Tabor City and reached speeds of at least 75 mph.

Man robbed on Harnett Street

A man was robbed shortly after midnight Thursday in the 500 block of Harnett Street, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department.At 12:40 a.m. Thursday, the man said he was walking home from Ruth’s Grocery when three men jumped him and took his property, according to the release.

Lejeune Marine arrested in Jacksonville shooting

A Camp Lejeune Marine is in jail charged with a weekend shooting in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville Police arrested 28-year-old Sgt. Michael S. Haridat for a shooting early Sunday morning outside of Las Maracas restaurant on Lejeune Boulevard. Witnesses say a fight between two groups led to three people being shot. Haridat, a rifleman and veteran of the war in Iraq, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury for shooting one of the victims.

Haridat is in the Onslow County Jail under a $60,000 secured bond.
