Looking for some bang for your educational buck? You don’t have to go far. Several North Carolina schools are among the best academic values in public colleges according to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine.

UNC Wilmington ranks 27th on the list. UNC Chapel Hill tops the list, as it has each year since Kiplinger started the rankings in 1998. NC State is tenth on the list, and Appalachian State is 22nd.

Castle Hayne couple homeless after mobile home burns

Castle Hayne | A man and woman are homeless after a heater sparked a fire that destroyed their mobile home Sunday night, officials said.About 6:30 p.m. firefighters went to the 3300 block of Davis Lane, where a mobile home was engulfed in flames, according to New Hanover County Deputy Fire Marshal Tom Sosebee.
