Mary Chesnut, the wife of a South Carolina planter and midlevel Confederate bureaucrat, wrote the most famous diary kept in Richmond during the Civil War. (A version edited by historian C. Vann Woodward won the Pulitzer Prize in 1982.) The South never had a more ardent Patriot.

Man killed when truck collides with train in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – A man has died after his pickup truck collided with a Georgia-bound Amtrak train in North Carolina.Multiple media outlets report that the train was traveling from New York to Savannah, Ga., when it hit a Toyota Tundra pickup truck in Fayetteville around 4 p.m. Friday.
