Foreclosures are affecting home prices, but should they?

The job of appraiser hasn’t really changed, said Howell Graham, who’s been in the business for years, but the market circumstances have.Sales and prices of homes have taken a dive since 2006. The Wilmington metro unemployment rate stands at more than 10 percent, double what it was in the summer of 2008.

Today is Valentine’s Day, but Gaye Varnam Fulford is already looking ahead to when love blossoms again this spring at high school proms.She still remembers her first prom, at West Brunswick High School in 1976. She went in a $25 dress she’d bought at Kmart. She had an OK time.

911 dispatchers field calls about snowballs

The snow brought some unusual additions Saturday to the normal calls for help fielded by dispatchers at the New Hanover County 911 center.About three to four dozen people phoned in to report people throwing snowballs, an official said.No arrests were reported.
