Update – Sheriff’s office investigating possible abduction

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has increased safety measures around Parsley Elementary School and Myrtle Grove Middle School after an attempted abduction of a 14-year-old girl, who reported that a stranger offered her a ride on Thursday.

A judge declared Friday that a former aide to John Edwards was in contempt of court, demanding that he turn over a “personal” videotape being sought by Edwards’ former mistress.

Bicyclist hit; Market Street reopened

One of the eastbound lanes in the 3800 block of Market Street has reopened after emergency responders cleared the scene where a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle.The accident happened just before noon. A dispatcher with the New Hanover County 911 Center said the bicyclist is conscious and alert.– Shannan Bowen
