Man knocked from bike, has bike stolen

Wilmington | A man riding his bicycle early Sunday told police he was hit by a person who then stole the bicycle.The man was riding near Fourth and Grace streets at 2:30 a.m. when the person knocked him off the bicycle, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department.

State appellate court declares “abuse” list unconstitutional

The state’s Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that the process by which people’s names are added to a semi-private list of accused child abusers is unconstitutional because they can’t defend themselves beforehand.

Survey cites safety fears during night in downtown Wilmington

More than half of city residents surveyed say they feel very unsafe in downtown Wilmington at night. That was the one stark detail of a report City Council received Tuesday afternoon following a two-month survey on how residents feel about Wilmington and its government.

St. James approves cooperation pact with Oak Island

St. James | The town of St. James approved a resolution Tuesday to cooperate with area municipalities on future planning issues. The move comes exactly one week after neighboring Oak Island approved the same resolution. Mayors Robert Morrow, of St. James, and Betty Wallace, of Oak Island, say they would like to bring Southport into the pact too.

‘One Tree Hill’ needs extras for Wednesday shoot
