Survey – New Hanover voters in no mood for sales tax hike

The New Hanover County commissioners are hoping that voter approval of a one-quarter cent sales tax in May will provide millions of dollars and help avoid a property tax increase.

Autopsy shows 26-year-old man likely died from heroin use

Carolina Beach | A 26-year-old man found dead last year in Carolina Beach State Park likely died of heroin use, according to an autopsy released Friday.The body of Joshua Bryant Hines of Greenville was found in a wooded area Dec. 17 fully clothed with no signs of trauma, according to law enforcement officials.

Power outage affecting 1,400

More than 1,400 Progress Energy customers are without power this afternoon, according to an outage map provided by Progress Energy.The power failure is affecting customers near Eastwood Road, from Market Street to Military Cutoff Road, according to the map.Power is expected to be restored by 2:30 p.m., according to Progress Energy.
