Authorities warn of paving scam in the area

Wilmington | Wilmington Police Department detectives have received complaints this week about a scam involving driveway and parking lot paving, according to a news release from Lucy Crockett of the department.“This scam reappears every few years, most often in the spring and summer months,” Crockett said.

Residents of a quiet Castle Hayne neighborhood gathered in their yards and peered out their windows Friday night as sheriff’s deputies and the Wilmington Fire Department’s regional HAZMAT team set up camp to investigate a suspicious substance brought into the area.
