Brunswick County taps Dr. Edward Pruden as new superintendent

Edward Pruden, an assistant superintendent in Virginia’s Chesterfield County Public Schools, will be the new superintendent of Brunswick County Schools. The school board announced his selection at a special meeting Thursday afternoon.The board chose him from among 34 candidates, narrowed down to 10 then three finalists.

Fire on Rockhill Road near Castle Hayne diverting traffic

New Hanover County | New Hanover County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisting New Hanover County Fire Services with a structure fire about 4:15 p.m. Thursday at 2325 Rockhill Road, according to a release from Cpl. Charles Smith of the sheriff’s office. Normal traffic flow is being interrupted in the area of the fire, Smith said.

Carolina Beach imposes steep fee on sweepstakes machines, considers moratorium

The Carolina Beach Town Council imposed a $3,000 fee on new internet sweepstakes machines this week, hoping to buy time to further research the machines and their potential impact on the community.
