Pender authorities apprehend wanted sex offender

Surf City | A registered sex offender who moved without telling authorities turned himself in Friday after being pressured by friends and family, Detective Sgt. Scott Lawson of the Pender County Sheriff’s Office said.

Charges dropped in Southport fatal DWI crash

Charges against Omar Perez, of Southport, have been dismissed because of insufficient evidence. Perez, who was 23 at the time of the accident and also uses the name Omar Morales, was charged with felony death by motor vehicle, DWI and driving on a revoked license after an accident in October 2008.
