Brunswick County issuing potassium iodide pills for residents near nuclear plant

For the first time since 2003, Brunswick County residents who live within 10 miles of the Brunswick Nuclear Plant will soon have the chance to get free potassium iodide, or KI, pills.

Wilmington program aims to appeal violent offenders’ consciences

Law enforcement officials say they’re planning to appeal to the conscience of Wilmington’s most violent criminals.The proposal to stop gun violence and other serious violent crime will be followed with promises of assistance for criminals who listen, and added law enforcement attention for those who don’t, officials said.

Carter to plead guilty to charges related to illegal campaign contributions

Wilmington businessman Rusty Carter is expected to enter misdemeanor guilty pleas on Tuesday stemming from illegal campaign contributions to Gov. Bev Perdue, state Senate leader Mark Basnight and state Sen. Julia Boseman, prosecutors confirmed Monday.
