Some voters feel duped by sales tax public pitch

Did the New Hanover County commissioners pledge not to raise property taxes if voters approved the quarter-cent sales tax?Lots of voters thought so, and they are now fighting mad at Chairman Jason Thompson, who they believe duped residents into thinking there would be no property tax hike if the sales tax passed.

Easley prosecutors looking into former Southport mayor’s DOT contract

Norman Holden’s contract, which began in early 2002, was extended annually until late 2008. Over that time, Holden made roughly $19,800 a year, or more than $129,000 total, according to DOT records.
