Lowes Foods donates percentage of sales to local animal shelters

One percent of all Lowes PAWS sales will go to the purchase of products for local shelters and humane societies. Both the Sunburst Foundation of Wilmington and Cape Fear Golden Retriever Rescue will participate.

Topsail High senior charged with kidnapping, sex assault at school

An18-year-old Topsail High School senior has been charged with two felonies after an investigation into an alleged sexual assault that took place on the campus of the Hampstead school, according to a news release from the Pender County Sheriff’s Office.

Choral Society working to expand its presence

After Paula Brinkman joined the Wilmington Choral Society last year and became its director, she waited before choosing the music for the group’s concert on May 29.She wanted to perform the “Magnificat,” John Rutter’s work based on a canticle, or prayer.“It’s such a joyful piece of music,” she said.
