Mom, 38, dies in crash near Southport

A 38-year-old mother was killed in Brunswick County Friday night when a drunken-driver crossed the center line and hit her car head-on, officials said.The wreck occurred at 11:26 p.m. as Satu Harris was headed south on River Road near the intersection of N.C. 87 near Southport, said Sgt. C.K. Parks of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

New Hanover County officials are considering merging existing fire districts into only two, leaving some in the volunteer firefighting community wondering if they have a future in the county’s plan.County Manager Bruce Shell will present a proposal to the board Monday night that advises county commissioners on firefighting issues.
