Boiling Spring Lakes boy drowned in lake Saturday

A 4-year-old boy drowned Saturday in a lake in Boiling Spring Lakes, said Police Chief Emmett Ballree. The child, Jackson “Jack” Helbig, was found in Big Lake by his father, Justin Helbig.

Forest fire burns 2 acres near 9 South Dow Road

Carolina beach | Firefighters battled a forest fire for more than two hours Sunday, dispatchers from New Hanover County 911 said.The first call came in at 4:46 p.m., and firefighters cleared the area at 7:20 p.m.The blaze moved through about 2 acres of woods near 9 South Dow Road. No injuries or damages were reported, dispatchers said.

Man arrested on indecent exposure charges near Fort Fisher

Kure Beach | A 62-year-old man exposed himself Saturday to three people at a lifeguard station, according to arrest records.James Leslie Gwin was charged with indecent exposure. He is being held in New Hanover County jail under a $10,000 bond.
